Terrible mildew smell! How do I get rid of it? ?

So this week my apartment flooded which left a significant part of the carpet wet. I tried to dry it out with a fan but it didn’t dry quick enough and now my entire apartment smells terrible and my landlord is really slow on getting things done so it could be that way for awhile. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smell? I’ve already Febrezed the heck out of my apartment. And also I was curious is there were any health risks that mildew poses? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  1. HUMAN TRIPOD says:

mildew turns into mold which is not excellent to be around ,the simplest way and most effective is to use bleach on anything you can but stay on your landlord to take care of this ,he should freak out if you tell him mold is growing

Quick or slow…it still has to be dried. If you have the moist carpet laying down already with the underlay-mistake. It will never dry. Febreze your butt off, you won’t fix the initial problem. The wood floor underneath will start rotting. Febreze is wet. Just adds to the wetness.
Walls are probably wet too…and am betting they are gypsum board so they are gonna stay wet for a long time unless you get hot and heavy on them. Health risk? Yeah. It is like moldy bread. Dry what you can. Bleach wipe the hard surfaces to kill unseen mold.
