How much soil heating cable needs to be ran through a 35 gallon plant pot?

I am trying to heat the soil in a greenhouse that generally will be around 40 degrees F at the coldest point in the night. How much heating cable is needed to heat a 35 gallon smart pot?

Rather than using electricity to heat your greenhouse, why don’t you use solar energy? It’s free and doesn’t pollute. All you need are plastic milk jugs painted black and filled with water. Set them in the South and West facing windows. You can also get a 55 gallon drum and fill it with water and paint it black. The water absorbs heat throughout the day and releases it all night. The heat from the 55 gal. drum will last longer due to the greater volume of water.

“Arrange cable so that it is at least 3″ from the sides of the flat and at least 4-5″ away from other parts of the cable ”

suggest you use a heavy duty extension cord to make a ‘dry run’ and try out several configurations.
