How much does it cost to wire a room for a ceiling fan?

We bought a new house that doesn’t have any type of light fixtures in the spare bedrooms. We want to place ceiling fans in there, but are wondering what the costs would be before deciding on it. There is already a switch in the room that controls one of the plugs. Would it be simpler just to go through the attic instead of chopping up the drywall to place in a whole new switch?

well if you wish to use the switch already there .. it is a simple fish in a wire and tie in in to the plug that is controlled by the switch and run it to the center of the ceiling .. add in a wood brace to bolt the ceiling fan base to and install the fan. i did the same thing to my home .. it cost about $50 to do takes about 2 hours . their is no need to chop in the sheet rock .. just fish the wire down from the attack and tie it in. they make remote switches for fans so it would be really simple to use one of those . it is a thin unit that look like a switch plate cover . you just touch the plate to turn on/ off the remote switch . cost 19.95 home depot .

Yes in the long run the way to do it go through the attic and using proper fan support boxes and brackets from Home Depot and the like– you will need to bring a power source to attic for your switches– while you are there I would run 14/3 AWG wire from boxes to switches so you have separate switches for the lights and fan — fan may need speed control switch– cost if you are DIY anywhere from $100–200 depending on fans you buy– nice weekend project –just make sure you get a very excellent fan support bracket– no wobble problems after install–excellent luck–

Well if you buy a fan with a remote control then all you need to do is run a power feed through the attic from somewhere handy and you install the fan with the proper support, the installation will not cost very much.
