How do you get status updates back on facebook instead of news feeds?

The new facebook layout that appeared in early february 2010 came with a small problem. It took away its status updates, now all there is, is news feeds and other dull stuff. Is there a way to get status updates back or are they gone for excellent?

    I reckon they are gone for excellent. What I do is “Click” on Friends, then “click” on Status Updates.
