How do I get the scratches out of a knife’s blade?
I have inherited an ancient knife and it has scratches in its blade from poor sharpening in the past and I would liek to restore and polish the blade.

I would try powder graphite and a lot of hand rubbing with a soft cloth.
Use buffing compound and a buffing wheel to clean it up, then use a sharpener (first) and a honing steel with honing compound and oil on it to end the edge.
