How do I get my puppy to not smell?
I have a 9 week ancient Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who smells pretty terrible. I had read that these were honestly clean dogs. I gave her a bath already since we got her and she still smells. I know people who have dogs, even larger dogs, and they dont smell this terrible.. She smells like a huge St Bernard! Any suggestions?

Pick up a deodorizing shampoo. One with baking soda is very excellent. You can even add baking soda to her present shampoo if you don’t want to waste it. You can also rub baking soda into her fur liberally, brush it out and then bath her. This absorbs the excess oils that may be causing the odor. Whatever method works best for you. Also, some food ingredients can cause this problem. If you’re feeding anything that contains whole grain yellow corn, bi-products or wheat, consider switching. There are may fantastic pet foods out there. Do your research online and in the pet stores. Please email me if I can be of any more help.
What kind of shampoo are you using? Normal doggie shampoo tends to not really take care of the smell. But you can try doggie fresheners – cologne and perfumes for dogs.

I found one at Walmart, but couldn’t find it online..
Maybe try an oatmeal doggie shampoo and lather her up really excellent.
Or try Febreezing your home and not getting to close to your pup.
Because you got her from a backyard breeder/puppy mill, the list of problems that are causing her odour are virtually endless.
Too terrible you didn’t do a stitch of homework before buying this poor pup. Toy breed dogs aren’t sold by responsible breeders until 12-16 weeks. What other ethical guidelines did this breeder violate?
My initial response to this question is that she’s being fed food that isn’t working with her system. Try Natural Balance Duck & Potato small bites and see if that helps. Give it a few weeks. If it doesn’t work, try a few other low protein high quality foods.
Of course this assumes that the dog has been to the vet and doesn’t have a liver shunt (major problem in BYB/PM dogs), terrible teeth, or another medical issue.
Aw, huge dogs don’t smell just because they’re huge! Be nice to huge dogs
In all seriousness, get the dog to a vet. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known to be prone to a number of health issues, some of which could cause the dog to smell (see the link below). An ear infection, excess eye gunk and more could be causing the smell. (My aunt had a cocker spaniel who had recurring ear infections and smelled dreadful because of it.) A vet would be able to tell you for sure what it is and get to the root of the problem.
Avoid bathing your dog too often. Unlike humans, bathing too often can be terrible for a dog! It removes the natural oils from their skin and fur and can lead to skin problems. If a bath didn’t fix the smell, then you know it’s something other than just dirt.
Take your puppy to a vet. Better to treat the health problem causing the smell – for all you know, your puppy could be in pain. Excellent luck, hope it goes away soon.
Puppy smell.
It will go away in a couple weeks.
